So obviously a move has to be made for the Capitals to have any shot at even playing in the postseason, let alone actually attempting at winning anything. So why not a major move, Ok so you say there is no cap space well my friend you just have to be drunk enough staring at capgeek.com and the nhl scoring leaders page to come up with something really frisky (something that our precious GMGM would never have the cahones to make btw).
Lets admit two things, first we need a center as badly as Omar needed eyes in the back of his head. Second Alex Semin is not going to be with the caps after this year, they may being playing nice at the moment, new coach and all, but he isnt coming back. As much as the female population of my family doesnt like that thought, the sooner everybody accepts it the better. OK OK get to the trade you say.... well here it is prepare to have mind blown
Cap space = 0, everybody knows this so that means it has to be dollar for dollar each way or more or less. The trade duh duh duh......
Alex Semin- 6.7 million, UFA + Mike Knuble 2.0 million, UFA + Michael Neuvirth 1.15 million for two years + Marcus Johannsson or Cody Eakin and the 2nd round pick from Colorado to the Calgary Flames for Jarome Iginla 2 years 7 million and Olli Jokinen 3 million UFA. Basically, its around 10 million going each way. See mind blown right? Play the old Bill Simmons game, "Who says no first?" The caps get a future Hall of Famer who has 46 points and a true 2nd line center (finally!) who is having a huge season, and isnt signed for long term. The flames get a stud young goalie to rebuild around and can look to start to unload Kipprasoff as well as an uber talented young swede and a good draft pick, plus clear a ton of cap space to start the rebuilding process.
Maybe its too much, from either the caps or maybe too little, but either way I ask you who says no first? And if you're a caps fan, aren't you kind of giddy at the thought of an Iggy, Nicky, and Ov line?
